Should I correct name spelling and how?

Received confirmation for my daughter to start at a local nursery next spring (as in childcare rather than pre-school, she'll be 11months). They spelled her name wrong. It's a minor error akin to Sarah/Sara or Kathryn/Katherine it doesn't make any difference to the sound and she's actually known by a short version (ie Kathy).

Should I send them a quick note to correct this now - or leave it til spring?!

It's annoying me as we deliberately chose a less usual spelling of the name as it is a family thing.

I'm not sure why it's tying you up TBH - I'd tell them now and if they haven't got it right by Spring then tell them again. I don't think it's a massive deal and you don't have to do it in a huffy way.

I think it's annoying me because I've got a name that's frequently mis-spelled/mis-shortened and now I've gone and done it for my daughter....!

So not the nurseries fault at all! I wasn't planning on bring huffy I guess I'm just worried I might come over as PFB parent about it and blot my copybook with the nursery!

For me I always correct people straight away.., guess I should do the same with Dd!

Yes just ring and tell them now incase they make nametags in advance. I have a similar name and constantly have to correct people on its spelling. I prefer my unusual spelling though - when I see it spelt the more common way I don't see it as my name even though it sounds the same.

No, I don't think you would be PFB - it's her name. If it was me at the nursery I would send back apologies and a confirmation that it will be amended.

Oh tell them. I went into DD1's special school on her first day and they'd spelled her shortened name 'lly' instead of 'llie'. On everything.

I took a deep breath and said 'I'm really sorry, but could you possibly change everything to 'llie' because if she's going to learn to spell her name I'd like her to learn it as we spell it at home and was written on the admission form.

They were lovely and did it immediately.

I'm going to go against the con census and say leave it till you start your settling in sessions
As long as you put the correct spelling on the enrolment form I wouldn't another too much about the spelling mistake on the confirmation letter
It is very likely that this letter was sent by the admin people and not the people who will be caring for your dd
I really wouldn't worry about it now.

I would reply to them now and let them know that her formal name is 'long version' & the spelling is 'this slightly unusual version' but that she called 'shortened name' and that is the name you wish her to have on her peg/paintings & correspondence etc.

I would worry about it now, simply because it filters through stuff they do/write/make for her and it's easier to nip it in the bud before it grows.

Id let them know. We had an issue at work once (after school club) when social services were involved with a family and couldn't share information with us as we had different spellings of the child's name.

Obviously this is an extreme reason, but it taught us to check things really carefully (turned out social care had the incorrect spelling).

I got my Cath Kidston writing paper out when DH suggested I emailed the nursery! Ha ha I'm so old fashioned!

I've emailed them just clarifying that we use "more unusual spelling" and that she should be known as "shortened name" on labels and to her face etc.

Yes and check it's right when she starts.

I'm a nursery teacher and mistakes do get made. I would prefer parents to correct me straight away and correct mistakes if they crop up again (due to it being on some official sheet someone copies).
Sometimes a mistake can come from a typo or human error (try typing 80 children's names out!) but also make sure you write it very neatly on the forms.
