Is nappy changing area and baby sleeping area included in the area I need for under 2's...or is it extra?

Bump - I have another question for you

How do you decide how many children in each age range?

So that you don't have too many under 2's becoming 2 and moving up a room
and the 3 yo moving up a room again

Does that make sense?

A tricky balancing act!

It's based on demand and the ages of children when they start. Initially it will be based on who signs up and this is the beauty of keeping a nursery open-planned. You can move partions etc to create more space for whatever age-group of children you have. For example - our pre-school room was small (but still allowing 2.5 sqm + per child) as we initially had very few 3 year olds. As our initial cohort of toddlers have grown up and moved into pre-school we then obviously needed a larger area for them. Hence the beauty of room dividers rather than solid walls.

The most important thing is to not promise staff that they will only be working within a certain age-group. Obviously people have an age-group that they prefer working with but we have/are sending all of our staff on both Birth-to-Three and Foundation Stage training so that they can work anywhere.

Oh Damn - i thpught there would be a nice equation/rule of thumb that can be applied
