so, why would a nursery with a cook , that offers 'home cooked food' have a catering van turning up each day...?

JessaJam · 18/07/2006 13:57

have you askedthem?

PrettyCandles · 18/07/2006 13:59

Perhaps it's 'home cooked' by the caterers, and the nursery cook just reheats, combines and serves.

hotmama · 18/07/2006 14:00

Perhaps they are cooking the food at someones home!

Or perhaps they are cooking it on site and providing other places? Like not all schools have kitchens on-site but have hot food deliered to them.

milward · 18/07/2006 14:00

second the asking them - it's your kids so you've a right to know

nailpolish · 18/07/2006 14:00

i dont see how you couldnt ask them directly

JackieNo · 18/07/2006 14:02

Our nursery used to be in a building that didn't have a very big kitchen, so the food was prepared at another nursery and sent up where it was dished out by the cook - could it be something like that?

JessaJam · 18/07/2006 14:03

They have a kitchen on site, I was shown it when we looked around, and met the cook too...
so if the caterers are 'home cooking' it, where's the cook gone?!

Don't worry, I will ask them...

sorry but homecooking doesn't mean a thing other than they heated it up rather than someone else. only "ho,memade" has any meaning.

Rhian101 · 18/07/2006 14:44

DS1's old school used to cook onsite for other local schools too for a bit of extra cash. Could it be going rather than coming? [Grasping at straws emoticon]

arfishymeau · 19/07/2006 13:40

Because they're evil money-grabbing bastards who have blatantly lied to you about home-cooking.

Go and confront them and report back...

melrose · 19/07/2006 13:46

When you say catering van do you mean someone like Brake bros? If so it would be delivering supplies as they would buy fro catering suppliers

Marina · 19/07/2006 13:48

Well yes melrose
The van could have had frozen veg, tinned goods and so on in it, if it was something like Brake Bros.
Hope you get to the bottom of it JessaJam.

JessaJam · 19/07/2006 13:52

hmmm, no one as well known as Brake Bros, DH is the one who keeps seeing the van as he works near the nursery...said the guy driving looked like a weasel and the van was pretty scruffy...
Think I may have to confront tonight when I go to collect ds (DH normally does pick up and drop off...and is better and winding me up to confront than confronting it himself it would seem!)

JessaJam · 19/07/2006 13:53

no offence to weasels! Nor anyone who is weasel-like in appearance!!!!

JackieNo · 19/07/2006 13:57

They're definitely delivering food, not just that they have a child to drop off, is it?

JessaJam · 19/07/2006 13:59

Not dropping off a child.....unless they are dropping the child off in a series of grey plastic crates.....

OP posts:
nailpolish · 19/07/2006 14:01

its not supplies like milk/bread/fruit and veg?

unless the have cows in the back garden and an allotment, they will have to have some deliveries

eenywifemum · 19/07/2006 14:03

LOL at the 'dropping off a child in a series of grey plastic crates' comment!

  • perhaps they're very famous children, and avoiding the papparazzi, hence the grey boxes.
JackieNo · 20/07/2006 09:47

So? Did you have a chance to ask them? What did they say?

JessaJam · 20/07/2006 13:19

no, DH collected ds from nursery after all yesterday, and he "forgot" to mention it...harumph!
