Yes, of course. It's illegal not to, isn't it?!

I assume you mean sick pay based on salary/for all sick days rather than SSP that is about £80 a week and kicks in on the 4th day off?

auntycupcake · 16/09/2013 22:32

companies do not have to pay for employees taking sick days...obv statutory sick is completely different and is about 80 quid a week. i work for a private day nursery chain who give the perk of 10 sick days per annum for each member of staff. whereas some of my friends work for other companies who do not get paid for sick at all (unless signed off). in fact one of my friends received a written warning for taking a sick day!!!!

I have worked in 4 day nurseries and none of them have ever paid sick leave.
I don't know of any nurserie that do.
As aunty says some staff are penalised for having any time off.

I help run a preschool and we pay one week sick pay per academic year.

No sick pay here. Sad
Is it any wonder we all have permanent minor ailments, between parents sending poorly children in and staff feeling under pressure to work even if ill. Lots of us are p/t and thus don't even qualify for SSP.

I've been at several nurseries recently where a member of staff had to nip off and vomit. People on minimum wage can't afford to take sick days.

cookielove · 18/09/2013 15:56

I get really good sick pay, but the nursery is a uni one.

Littlefish · 18/09/2013 20:43

Yes. I work in a school-run nursery.

Impactedturtle1 · 19/09/2013 06:16

Nope no sick pay here. There's been plenty of times where someone has had to nip off to the loo to be sick because they can't afford a day off. ??

This is with Kidsunlimited too.

I'm lucky I work for the local authority so we have great sick pay (plus carer's leave paid if my own child is ill!).

Have worked in several private nurseries and never had sick pay.
