Present for nursery nurse who is being made redundant?

I've just found out that one of the lovely ladies who looks after DS at nursery is being made redundant. She has really helped him settle and never failed to make him smile, so I'm feeling really bad that shes having to leave.

I'd like to get her a gift to say thank you and good luck but have no idea if this would be seen as 'bad form'. Does anyone have any advice on whether a gift would be appropriate, and if so what?

In 1999 a child gave me a personalised mug, he had drawn a picture and I guess it was scanned and printed onto the mug then glazed or coated in something as it has lasted well as can still see the picture now.

I feel a "you never fail to make me smile at nursery" gift is a nice thought and may well be appreciated.

Gift wise, something practical that has a chance of getting used. A mug, I use. A picture of a child gathers dust in a drawer. Food gets eaten and probably makes me fat. So something your child can personalise - many websites now offer personalised gifts on quite a fast turn-around time.

I second what nannynick says. Also a nice thank you card she can add to her portfolio for new jobs would be appreciated.
