Frustrated with nursery already

Hi,

New to mums net, but thought I would give it a go as I find as a new-ish parent I have sporadic OMG moments that I need to get off my chest and seek some reassurance on.

Said OMG moment of the moment (!) is that my girl at almost 12 months has started to have settling in sessions at her nursery. Whilst the nursery seems fantastic, I'm a bit annoyed about the way her sessions have been arranged. Firstly it's been great that the length of time she is the has gradually been increased, I.e. 1 hour, two lots of two hours and we are jumping to 4 hours next week and the following week she will start properly with two full days a week.

My issue is that the nursery are not concerned currently about getting her down for naps, but yet they have arranged her to visit at exactly the times when she takes her MN. this has meant her first experiences of nursery have not gone great because she has been overtired. Subsequently I've had a bit of a rubbishy day because she'll only take one nap when she gets in for about an hour and then won't sleep for the rest of the day despite being tired. Basically our routine is totally messed up on nursery days.

Do I just have to weather the storm on the days she will be at nursery? Will she eventually settle down and learn to sleep better? I'm sure she's not ready for one nap a day, she's far too young. I just hate to see her getting overtired and upset especially when we have had a routine in place that works really well for her for so long.

Anyone else have/had similar problems?

How do the nursery handle naps, are they set periods?
If so, you might find you have to adapt your routine To match nursery days.
Both nurseries we have used (both wonderful) put all children down for naps at set times.

Also, their routines may be different to yours as nurseries tend to serve lunch really early.

I don't think it's possible for a childcare setting to follow every individual child's specific home routines when they are all likely to be different,

I would think it would work out. It seems fair to use 'getting to know you' time in getting to know you, rather than rocking a baby to sleep. Once she's there all day a routine of some sort is almost bound to appear.

What do nursery say about napping? My nursery's baby room goes with the child's routine but gradually (on purpose or not) gets them into the same routine as the others their age - ie mid morning and mid afternoon nap for babies and a single afterlunch nap for the toddlers.

It is hard to have a settling in session that doesn't coincide with naptime at that age (ie avoiding meal times probably best for the first sessions), and they probably don't want her to spend the whole session asleep. I expect the 4 hour session will include a nap - discuss it with them.

By the way the lengths of the settling in sessions seem normal to me, I have 2 DCs at nursery.

Thanks all. I have no issue with the way the nursery is run per se.... Otherwise we would never have chosen it. I guess I just feel frustrated because of the disruption which I'm sure will be short lived. Nap wise they look for tiredness cues, also I filled out some forms about her routine etc so hoping they will try to work with that?

That's my other issue TheSurgeonsMate they seem to cuddle the babies to sleep there. My girl won't do that and I have explained this to them. Mind you on the flip side, when she's there all day I'm happy they do whatever they can to get her to doze! Think I'm just being an overprotective mum, can help it she's my first precious bundle :)).

aGnotherGnu - you're right about the meal thing, will take some adjustment for my DD I think,
