lots of staff leaving

Almost one a wwek leaving my child's nursery lately should I be worried or does this turnover happen at most nurseries?

In the 8 months DD has been at her nursery only one staff member has left and that was to go on mat leave.

I wouldn't be happy with the turnover you are seeing.

Depends on the ages and if they're any good. Idiots leaving is a good sign. Experienced qualified good staff leaving is a bad sign.

As far as I know the majority have been good and are going to other nurseries:( its an ofsted outstanding nursery and we've been very happy with it but think this is a bit worrying or am I over analysing? ?

It might be outstanding but if the staff are not treated well they will vote with their feet maybe speak to the manager and ask for an explanation / reassurance x

Otherwise - yes, as Noggie says, talk to the management/ owner, but also talk to the existing staff if you can do so and find out why their colleagues have left and whether there is general dissatisfaction or just that there were better jobs elsewhere. You might not get the full story from either, but always a good idea to get as much info as possible.

Our nursery has just had four staff leave, or be about to leave or give notice in the space of a few weeks. One was apparently let go, the others were all experienced and very good at their jobs. We're very concerned as our kids adored them. Seems to be a big clash with the management, and we're seriously considering looking for somewhere else, but waiting to speak to the owners about what's been going on.

i did supply at a nursery that used to do this. it may be because the staff have got their level 3 childcare cert and are being moved on (sacked) for cheaper trainees

I'm 45, NNEB trained and looking to get back into work outside of the home where I worked for dh doing clerical stuff for six years.

I saw a job ad for Toddler Room Leader at a leading chain of nursery providers, despite not having worked in a school nursery for those six years I thought I'd give it a go and got the job, I've lasted 4 days!!

It was full to the maximum amount of children allowed, in one room with poorly motivated, disinterested staff with a huge amount of paper work and responsibility all for a paltry wage of £6.41 an hour.

If I was a Parent who had a child in that room I'd be mortified to see it in action.

I would be concerned. High staff turnover means lack of continuity for the children in the first instance, but also means if good staff are leaving to go to other nurseries, there are better options (still in childcare) elsewhere ? this might mean better pay, more training, better perks etc ? all of which mean that the manager of the nursery isn't bothered / investing in the staff. If thats true then I would assume that the owners are not really that bothered about the care of the children (because happy staff = happy children) and that would be a red flag for me.

Staff leaving frequently is not a good sign, whatever be the reason it is an indication that they are not satisfied working there. And this dissatisfaction is reflected in their work and responsibility towards the children.

high staff turnover will have a negative effect on the chidlren regardless of the reasons. IT's a warning bell to me.
