Crying at nursery - when will it stop?

My ds 2 years started nursery last week. First time he was fine - the second time he screamed the place down when i left. A lot of mothers say that this will last ages. It makes me feel terrible leaving him in that state and I feel like bringing him home - but i know he has got to get used to it. So when will he get used to it and settle down?

depends on child. if he needs to be there teh best approach is to hand him over as cheerfully as possible adn leave with minimum of fuss. (and then go and cry in the car!). Is he ok after you leave or does he continue to cry?

No apparently he is fine after 10 minutes or so - i suppose i will get used to it - its so hard. I had thought he was a bit young to go at 2, but to be honest we are moving house in a couple of weeks, getting married in august and i got an exam with the open uni in June so I could do with the time

it is hard but if he is ok after you leave he is probably enjoying himself. try and relax when you are leaving him and chat to him about what he has been doing at nursery afterwards and chat about going to nursery in the morning so he is prepared.

has he got a favourite toy ? My kids always settled better if they have their favourite teddy or whatever - the one they yell for when they get hurt.
