DS'S nursery closes 4 weeks in the year. When I went to see the nursery I was told this would be good for the kids as the carers and keyworkers are not allowed time off except on those weeks. I keep getting told this is not normal practice? I am now worried if the holidays will be disruptive to DS.

I don't think it is at all normal. Our nursery closes for a week at Christmas and for Bank Hols - but mine have only ever gone Tues-Thurs. I think the holidays will be more disruptive to you than to DS though. Grin

In fact lots of people actually choose nursery care because they do not have holidays, whereas a childminder will usually take a set number of weeks off.

Not normal practice as far as I know. Our nursery closes on bank holidays (not sure about Christmas - only started there 2 months ago!)but one of the reasons we chose nursery care was because we can take our holidays when we want not when they want.

Dd's nursery (big chain) closes bank holidays and one week over X'mas/New Year. Carers take leave as and when they require.

Same as blueshoes, still have to pay for public hols.

dd's nursery is closed on Bank Holidays and between Christmas and New Year. We don't pay for these days. Staff take holidays as and when. We also get two weeks "holiday" where we only pay half fees if dd isn't there. Helps cover the cost of a holiday :).

In addition to bank holidays and 2 or 3INSET type days, DD's nursery closes for a week over Christmas. This apparantly was done in the last 3 or 4 years after staying open and people not using the facilities and not giving the nursery pre warning about their plans.

Our Nursery closes for a week in August and then over Christmas and Bank holidays none of which we get charged for.
My previous nursery only closed on 4 days for Chritmas day, boxing day New years day & 2nd Jan.
I'd be stuffed if a nursery closed for 4 weeks

Yes, dd1's nursrey used to shut for 2 weeks at xmas, and a week at easter.
Is easier for staff hols.
