Glasgow Nursery

I'm looking for a nursery for my wee girl just now and wonder if anyone has any Southside or city centre recommendations? Or anywhere best to avoid?!

I'm going to visit Sinclair nursery and hide n seek at prospecthill to see what they are like, any experiences of these nurseries would be much appreciated.

Hi Josparkle, Pied Piper in Shawlands has a good reputation. I also visited the nursery on Bothwell Street in Glasgow and it seemed good, but expensive. I am not sure about recommending the nursery I chose as have had a few issues with them. When you start visiting the nurseries you will know which one feels right for you. Good luck and hopefully you will get some more useful replies!

Try HMIE at least to give an idea of which ones are doing well, usually the local education authority can help by giving a list of nurseries that have places, then you can check them against the HMIE or at least that's what I did when we moved to the highlands from England. You'll also be able to view the nurseries before hand, in our area they have open days like the primary schools around Easter time. Hope this helps, as I know what a big decision this is. Good luck.

My ds is in a Hyde n Seek nursery andnthey have been great.

They have been very accommodating with his issues settling in and also with feeding difficulties....their advice and suggestion have helped us a lot!

Now, 6 months in my 13 month old happily goes in anf gives me a wave. And he always lookd happy when we pick him up.

If your little one is 2.5 or older I highly recommend st Ann nursery school in stratbungo. It is excellent only down side is open 830-430 only x

Hi jo, not sure which area of the southside you are in but Cosmic Coppers in Cardonald are excellent, my daughter loved it there. They have got top grades in the care commission and HMIE assessments!

No advice but I am also looking for a nursery in the southside so am reading with interest! Am going to visit Sinclair and Hyde n' Seek this afternoon.

There is a cosmic coppers on merrylee road which is apparently great-got all 6s for inspection. Also like mayfield in cross hill as my little ones went there as babies. Favourite for 2.5 years plus is st Ann in stratbungo which I mentioned in previous post .

My little boy goes to sinclair drive and I cant recommend it enough. He loves it almost to point of not wanting to leave when I pick him up!

There is, apparently, an outdoor nursery in Pollock Park - the children are outside all day - with plenty of waterproofs and wellies, and tarpaulin shelters if it rains. These didn't exist when my boys were little, but I have seen this nursery group in the park, when I have been at the Burrell Collection, and they looked to be having an amazing time - I'd have put the boys in a nursery like this in a heartbeat.

I think the manager of this nursery has a distinct tract depending on the person. Just today, I was in this Nursery to ask if they hadn't a place for my son. The manager in just to see me, told me he didn't receive funding, and they hadn't space. When I said I 'll pay, she took me into the office and told me the price for 5 hours in the morning. But when I said that my son had just received the council founding, and if in my case I could deduce paying the difference of the amount. She returned to say that hadn't place for founding. I really didn't understand, because if I'm needing attention for 5 hours to my son, and the council will pay 3 hours, what's wrong with me pay the difference of that amount. I think that the council pays £46 a week and I have to pay £54, and if the council is paying, what's wrong with I pay the difference totalling £400 (I will be paying the same amount of £ 400 per month). I really felt discriminated against and this has been the second time, because I've been in this nursery once before, when I went my son was two and I was going to pay for part time 5 days and they didn't give me form for this on the waiting list or any resolution
