what is normal for 'settling in days'

Hi,

I am going back to work fulltime at fairly short notice. We had a nursery picked out and 'on standby' and fortunately they have a place. I went today with my son to fill out the forms and pay the fees. I had a great feeling about the place and my son had a whale of a time charging around with the other kids (he's one), however, I have this one small niggle. They only have ONE settling in session of two hours where you leave the child alone. I have decided to over-ride this and pay for an additional 5 hour morning session as I feel it is too much of a shock, but what does anyone else think? Is this an irresponsible policy? They have a good offsted and so forth, and everything else about the place feels right, it just seems a little odd.

HELP!

It doesn't seem like much.. I went back to work at short notice when DD1 was 6months old and luckily found a place at a fab nursery.
I only had 10 days btwn signing her up and starting work but they offered as many sessions as I wanted/ she needed/ was physically possible.
In the end I think she did 5, starting with us together for one hour, then her on her own for an hour, then 2 hours etc...

If you're happy in all other respects, then try not to worry but I'd be a bit annoyed they've let you pay for the extra session.

Hi, I go back to work next week for 3 days a week. Last week my ds did 3 'settle in days'. Wednesday, an hour with me there, Thursday 1 and a half hours on his own and Friday 5 hours on his own. This week I started him on 3 full days with me at home so I am around if he needs me (he hasn't!) and next week I'm off to work!

First nursery they were happy to leave for a hour once a week in the few weeks before.

I'm changing and he's had one hour and this fri and next he is going for 2 hours and a meal..I'm really pleased with it.

Seems harsh to charge you for the morning if you will be paying for a f/t space.

At my nursery it was 3 one and a half hour sessions with me there - that is, an hour and a half each day for three days. However I don't live in the UK so I don't know what is typical there.

My nursery is similar to NewMum2b's
.. My daughter started full time yesterday (4 days a week) so did her settling in sessions last week. They did one hour with me in the room with her, then another hour the next day on her own in the baby room but with her dad in the a building, then two hours the following on her own completely, witif me on call if needed. I'm not going back to work til Thursday so a.m on hand if there are any problems this week. I was very happy with the settling in process offered, it worked well for my DD

DD (17mo) is going to start nursery on Wednesday. She'll have two 1 hour settling in days, one tomorrow (Friday) and the other on Monday. I'll be leaving her alone on both. I'm actually not too bothered because DD has never been fussed about separation, but I can understand it might seem a bit tough for some littlies.

My first nursery I used had only ONE afternoon session.
My second nursery I used had 5 days each day about 2 hours!
