Forgetting medicine - what would you do?

My 3 year old has been at a private nursery since 10months and we are mostly very happy with it. However today I am not sure what to do as they forgot to give my dd medication that she needs. It is short term medication (anti-virals) and they should have given one 5ml dose at lunchtime. I signed it in in the morning and left the bottle with them. When I picked her up i asked for the bottle back and it was clear from the forms that no-one had given her the medication at lunchtime. They were very apologetic and I think I made it clear how unhappy I was, but on reflection this is really serious isn't it. My dd is meant to have this medication 4x per day and today she has missed a dose. I don't know what to do - should I put a complaint in writing?

Well now I think that as it is short term medicine, it is not in fact "really serious". It is bad...but not something you need to complain in writing about.

If it were something life threatening then of course that would be different...but if we're talking one missed dose of antibiotics then that probably makes me a terrible parent because I've forgotten a dose numerous times with both my DC!

The fact that you're paying for care, doesn't completely remove the risk of human error from the situation.

I think that you can give them the benefit of the doubt.

I guess it depends on what you aim to get from putting in a written complaint? I agree with you, it's not okay but if you made enough of a scene about it, hopefully the staff will remember tomorrow!

As a nursery practitioner I have to admit that i do sometimes forget to give medicines.
It happens. Especially with short term medicines. I usually remember the 'serious' ones.

I think I will give the benefit of the doubt - I suppose that all that would be gained from a complaint would be a change in how they record medicines - but I think this will probably happen anyway.
