Nursery Settling in - Worries

Hi.

I am putting my little boy into Nursery for 1 day a week as of Aug when he will be 9 months. however i'm panicinng that he won't settle in and know where he is going as its only for 1 day a week. The nursery have even phoned me to ask if he can have any more time at nursery to help him settle in better. Which we cannot afford. Which is now making me panic about leaving him even more.

I'm going back to work part time, my oh is having him 1 day and MIL another. so were lucky we only have to put him into nursery for 1 day.

Any reassurances would be great, as i'm so worried about it.

My friends son goes half a day a week. It took him a little longer to settle but is now absolutely fine and loves going

I had similar worries. Day one with my 12mo, I'm crying, she's crying, we're both clinging on to each other. Day two, I put her down and she toddles off to play with some toys, doesn't give another look back.

In short, he will be just fine, it will be good for him to socialise with other people and babies are very adaptable. If it doesn't work, find another solution but honestly, he will be fine. Promise.

He will be fine, do you really have to pay for more settling in visits? Is there anything you can take in from home that might be of comfort to him?

He will settle quicker than you think, try not to worry in a couple of weeks he will be loving being around the other children! X

ahh thank you for your reassurance. he gets 3 2 hours settling in visits. but nursery said can he come for an extra morning or day to make it easier for him to settle in which is what we can't afford. thanks for all your advise though!!

My DS goes 9-2, 2 days a week. He had 2 settling in sessions, one was 1 hour where I stayed with him, the second was 2 hours where I left him.

No nursery should charge for extra settling in visits! Settling in should be as long and as often as it takes until they settle. I never used to charge until the child stayed for the full session they would be paying for! I know that doesn't help but in just a bit shocked! Anyway I'm sure he will be ok and soon get used to the routine. IME children that only came one day did take a little longer to settle but once they settled really enjoyed it as it was probably a novelty for them to come somewhere with lots of toys and other little people to play with! Its really nice your ds is being cared for by family too, its a good balance I think.

My nursery is also free for settling in, I even offered to pay and they said no! DD is only there for 2 half days a week and ok (so far, fingers crossed)
