how can I work when pre-school nursery only offers 3 hours a day?

My daughter will be 3 in November and has just been offered a 9am till 12 every day place at the pre-school nursery very nearby, starting in November. I currently work three days a week, 3/4 hour journey from home, and she is with a nanny for those days. How do people manage this? I could ask to work 5 half days, but I wouldn't be back in time to pick her up. Would a childminder/nanny work a few hours in the middle of the day?
Any suggestions would be gratefully received!!

Some children at my son's pre-school have childminders that drop them off and pick them up and some have a nanny. Not sure what the nanny does while child is at pre-school.

The nanny will stay, I guess, and do child related duties around the house in those hours. Batch cooking, taking delivery of shopping, cleaning and tidying children's rooms etc.

I think that's what most people do on your situation.

I have quite a few friends who do this. You keep the nanny for the same hrs and then she does drop off/pick up and does things like preparing meals, light housework, etc while child is at preschool.

I think other people keep on the nanny, and still send the DC for the nursery sessions.

Would your nanny be willing to do a bit of ironing/cleaning during the time your DD is at nursery?

If you keep the nanny on, you will have no worries if your DD is ever ill. Other wise, you will need to find a day nursery which offers longer hours.

I have looked recently and it seems there are people who are prepared to do any sort of combo of looking after / house stuff you come up with.

Definitely people around who would do the bits that you need - you need drop off in the am and then pick up and look after I guess?

You would need to also need to factor in who will look after her during holidays

The nanny or childminder takes the child to and from nursery, just as a sahp would do.

I think I'd be inclined to stick with a trusted professional child carer than scout around for someone who was "prepared to do any sort of combo".
