Experience of Chaston Nursery in NW6

Was just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on Chaston Nursery in West Hampstead. Having been let down by Asquiths we are now thinking of sending our DS here and, although it seemed good on inspection it is always helpful to hear about actual experiences. At the moment we are going to register him for April and hold the place at Asquith for September.

George30- We were also let down by Asquith. DS supposed to start there in June (we registered last July before he was even born!!!) and they rang last week to say that a position is only available from August .......

I've ended up putting DS down at Teddies on West End Lane because it is the next most convenient but I was going to check out Chaston too (like we can afford putting down deposits for the few nurseries around here (just in case .... once bitten, twice shy!!) now that my paud maternity leave has finished!!!). The OFSTED report sounded ok. Haven't gotten around to ringing them but another mum mentioned that it might be a council run nursery rather than a private one. Not sure if this makes a difference?

If you do go to visit, I would be interested to hear your thoughts?!

Forgot to mention that we are starting DS at Teddies from June and then (hopefully!) moving him to Asquith in Aug. I am loathe to do this to him (eg settle him in at one place then another etc) but hopefully children are as adaptable as they say ....!

You know, if there are enough of us in this position around here maybe we could do a nanny share or something? Another mum mentioned to me that two of her friends also received "similar" phone calls from Asquith last week so if we are all in the same area, this could be an option?!

George30 - did you know that Chaston has a website? www.chastonnursery.co.uk I haven't gotten around to ringing them or anything yet but I did notice on their website that opening hours are from 830am only (0830 to 1800). This would make it pretty difficult for us (with travel and start time at work etc) - not sure if affects you? Just a thought ....

Hi Hey Baby - thanks for the messages. Have been away all week - hence the lack of replies. We visited Chaston and were pretty happy with it although it isn't as flash as Asquith and the building is not much to write home about from the outside. They have a big playground though and the inside is bright and cheerful plus the kids seemed happy which is the main thing. We've put DS's name down and are waiting to hear back. Like you we may move him in August/September if we're not happy. I must admit we also saw Teddies but didn't like it - might have been an unfortunate day though, is so hard to tell.
I think Chaston is private by the way but there is another nursery just up the road from it which is Council run.
Not sure on the opening hours although at the moment my DH and I have agreed that he will drop off and I will pick up so 8.30 should be OK - is a pain that they close at 6 but will just have to see how it goes. I gave work the "good" news on Friday.
Also - if you fancy meeting face to face for a chat let me know. xx

George30 - thanks for the info. Since my last messages I actually visited a council nursery on Acol Road and they told me that their nursery plus the new one opening up on Palmerston Rd are already full and there is a long waiting list and in any case, their intakes are only in January and Sept (ie twice a year). Would love to meet up and compare notes - are you free anytime tomorrow or Weds? We are away from Thursday for a holiday ...... Could meet at West End Lane or Starbucks in O2 centre or something?

George30 · 06/02/2006 12:10

Am free on Wednesday. How about the Costas Coffee just past the station on West End Lane (the one next to the Starbucks)?
Would 2.30/3ish be any good? Drop me a text - 07976 631928.

George 30 - tried to text you twice but received replies saying I had the wrong number?

Anyway, could do 2-ish on Weds? Does that suit you?

HeyBaby · 07/02/2006 15:49

George30 - sorry, since I didn't hear back I have booked DS in with Health visitor tom at 2pm. Would still like to meet up another time though! Let me know what else suits. We are away for a week on Thurs so maybe when we get back?

George30 · 07/02/2006 20:21

My fault - posted the wrong number but have since thought that perhaps it wasn't that sensible to post my mobile on a website

Sorry I missed you - has been a bit crazy this end. Will send you a private message so you can text me when you back and we can arrange to meet up. Hope you have a good break.

Just discovered your profile doesn't allow private messages - perhaps just post when you are next free and I'll keep an eye out for you.

I'm thinking of using this nursery for my child but have heard mixed reports. Can I contact you to hear your experiences?
