How many nappies does your nursery use for dec a day?

DS 9mo started nursery this week
We need to provide 5 nappies day in the kit bag with wipes, wipes are named
I put 8 nappies in on monday 2 came back
7 nappies in today 1 came back
He is dropped off 8, picked up 430 that means he's changed almost hourly given naps??
Usually in same time at home I would change him 2-3 times given he'd be in a clean nappy to start with?
I know it sounds petty but if he needs thatany changes im a bit worried, and if not where are the nappies going??! He's in active fit pampers at this rate I'll be buying a giant box every 2 weeks :-$
Is this usual nursery stuff?
Thanks

No, not usual nursery stuff IME.

I have the oppostie worry with our nursery. DD goes from 8.30am until 5pm and they note down every time she is changed. This is usually twice, sometimes three times a day. Never more.

Ginismyfriend · 11/01/2012 20:32

That sounds like a lot. DD's nursery usually does three changes in the day (they supply the nappies though). Does the nursery give you a list at the end of the day of when they've done nappy changes?

DizzyCow63 · 11/01/2012 21:00

I would only put 4 in for a day or two and see what the nursery say.

Just ask. Do they inform you of when he has dirty nappies? Also, they might place them somewhere, a child could have the same nappies in the same size and accidently be using yours? Put your childs initials on the nappies, that way they can't accidently use them on another child.

Usually there should be routine nappy changes mid morning, after lunch, mid afternoon and before they go home. They will also be changed more frequently if they do a dirty nappy in between these times.

It's a requirement to note down every nappy change, next time you go in , ask them to check his nappy changes from the last couple of times he was in. Express your concern that 7 nappy changes seem alot. They won't think any less of you!

They probably grab a handful of nappies out in the morning so they don't have to keep raiding the bag. Most likely when you ask you'll find they have a pile of your DCs nappies in the changing room, left over from earlier in the week.
Also, do they do painty/water play with the babies? That usually means an extra change of everything.

It would surprise me a lot if your nursery was using 6 or 7 nappies in a day. We generally change a child at my nursery every 3 hours (more so if they're soiled). I rarely see more than 4 or 5 changes and if so its often due to diarrhoea in which case they would probably be sent home.

We have 4 "official changes" with DD and more if she needs it for poos.

Just to add I buy Lidl or Asda nappies for nursery and give them a carry pack with DSs name on. I stopped buying Pampers for nursery a few months ago...

Hi sorry only just saw your post. My nursery change 3/4 times day and were fine with the cheaper version if not praising the Asda ones.
I had to cut down on spending and buying the cheaper pack worked out about £10 saving a month - doesn't sound a lot! I've just found a nursery that am hoping to send DC to that factor nappies into nursery fees!
