To eat or not to eat.....

Hey Dd is settling at a nursery at the moment. She's stayed today for lunch. She ate nothing. Not even yogurt which she usually loves. She also refused milk. Admittedly this was only 2hr stay, so she may not be hungry etc. however they said its very normal for kids to not eat or drink when starting a nursery as its the one thing mum always does.

Is this right? Sounds likely, just would Like additional experience to decide when to be concerned and when to relax....

All thoughts welcome. It's horrid, I'm hating every second....trusting it all improves? Mostly for me as dd seemed ok...

In my experience it is completely normal for some children to not eat when they first start school or nursery. Most nursery/school staff are experienced in dealing with it and the situation often resolves quickly.

Being a nursery worker I see this behaviour very often. Usually for the first week or so until they become more comfortable and settled with the environment and the staff. At the moment I would try not to worry as it is completely normal. If you are very worried I would suggest booking more visits before she starts to help her settle but as you said she seemed ok its probably not necessary. C x

thanks ladies, appreciated. It sounded like it was probably right, but being new territory I just wanted someone else to confirm it. She's only doing 3 days a week so Ill keep an eye on it, don't want her hungry but equally Im sure she will copy others eventually.

Hugs x

My daughter started nursery a month ago at 10months old and rejected absolutely all food except milk for the first week - including things I knew she liked. After a week or so she suddenly started eating, and not just trying things, eating everything on the plate! Grin

I'm sure your DD will eat again soon, there's bound to be something to tempt her!

Of course you feel horrid, that is normal. I don't know many parents who loved the first weeks their LO went to nursery! But, give it a few weeks and see how you are then. They adapt so quickly and most likely will eat and sleep very well there in the very near future.
