Nursery before nursery school?

I have a 20mo who will start at a great nursery school when he is 2.5yrs. At the moment he is F/T with me, currently a SAHM.

Have been looking for a nursery to take him a few mornings a week so that if I do return to work soon (may/may not) he will spend some time at nursery and some time with a nanny.

Our local nurseries are either unimpressive, fully booked and will be until he is 2, or only take FT.

Is there any point in sending him to a nursery from 2yrs knowing that at 2.5 he will have to change nurseries? Is that too much adjustment for a child that age?
