Finger Print access at nursery

Nursery our son goes to have just decided to implement this. Apparently anyone who picks DS up will have finger prints scanned, then when we go to pick him up, the machine by the door scans your finger and lets you in (or not!).

I can see the advantage - at the moment you press the buzzer, and at busy times i'm sure they're constantly going to let people in, when should be looking after kids, and also we get let in quicker, v good for morning rush!

It's just i've never come across it before. Does anyone else have this?

Thanks!

Lots of nurseries in my area have this, the nursery i manage does not but we are only small and greeting parents at the door is part of our ethos...but the constant door answering can be a pain!

There are some good deals on the cost too at the moment, we get at least 3 calls a month trying to sell this to us.

DS2 used to go to a nursery with fingerprint access. It was very useful indeed and meant there was never any waiting around in crap weather for someone to be able to answer the door.

Our nursery has this. I was sceptical at first but it actually makes a big difference. Previously from 5pm onwards every time the buzzer went all the children ran to the door "Is it my mummy?" x 30. Now they just carry on with their activities and we quietly walk in. It makes pick up a lot less frantic and means that I actually get to watch the activity for a couple of minutes while my son is still engrossed before he actually notices I'm there. It's good.

DS's first nursery had this it was great. I wish his current nursery did as I hate having to buzz several times to be let in.

Ok thanks all. YY to the buzzer going off and the kids getting excited then disappointed/upset. I hadn't thought of that!

Deep apparently they will also have a camera set up so the nursery workers will see eveyone coming in, and check that they're who they say they are. And besides which, the children are never unattended anyway.

I will have to ask about storage of data however, thanks.
