food at nurseries?

how often should children eat at nursery? DD used to eat three meals and two snacks a day so about every 2 hours but nursery have now decided they cant have snacks anymore so they eat 4 hourly. We're not allowed to send any food with her so there's nothing we can do but she gets so giddy or very tearful before both lunch and dinner and is getting in trouble for being naughty!

so is this normal? such long gaps between food? just trying to work out I should be expecting.

Thanks dribbleface. They have tea at 4.30 and i pick them up at 5.30

sounds strange then that she is that hungry. I would ask about portion size etc. In our nursery we tend to write 1/2 3/4 or all. Often we show parents the portion size so they can gauge the description we give.

I would have a chat with them. I'm hoping the 'we do feed her' comment was in humour and not said with an attitude!

It really is the having to trust tham things thats the problem though isn't it? We trust nurseries to feed our children when they are hungry and look after them in a way that protects their grown and development but we don't really know what they do and having found out my nursery has hidden behind cildren being to young to tell their parents I really do feel the trust is gone!!

A child who eats at 4.30 shouldn't be starving by 5.30, they need to give you more information about what they are giving her, it's ot about them feeding her what they give her it's about her getting enough food to grow and develop.

Though I'd just post an update. After I spoke to the manager last week she had considered things and snack is being reinstated for all ages after the school half term. She accepted that they had been unreasonable on many levels and has agreed to provide all parents with a complete menu of everything provided for the children each month. I'm not happy that they got away with it for so long but I am glad that they have reacted quickly when I have voiced my objections.

Will see how things go for a couple of weeks but still have my eyes on other places incase I feel the need to move DD1 or start DD2 somewherelse.

Thanks for all your advice and comments this last week xx
