There aren't any really terrible ones about. What side of Newbury will you be?

Hi
Sorry for late reply, I am still in house search so not sure about area yet. I heard of Abacus, Pelican, Quackers - do you know about them ?

-Quackers seemed nice when I was there for a bit many years ago. Very child focused. Think it's still the same owner.
-Pelican is part of the Childbase chain which is a good one if you like them.
-Abacus is nice. Say hello to Louise the manager for me, she's excellent if she's still there. Child centred and the staff were quite good. Much more of a family feel compared with the average nursery. I think it's the best out of the 3.
-Acres of Fun isn't too far away on that side of town. Huge garden, seemed like a good owner. Shame she hates me. I like the manager, Kay. Very good. Tell her David sent you!

O wow, you seems to know very well about the nurseries there. Thanks a ton. We are planning to Newbury for good - is it the place worth living ?

One of the best things about Newbury is the countryside around it. Decent shopping for it's size. Long way from the beach. Pretty good.

Hi - we used Just Learning (next door to the college) and found it good. Just to say make sure you check out school catchments before you buy a house - at the moment people are only getting places for the school in their catchment area. See www.westberks.gov.uk

I've heard Acres of Fun is really nice - but a bit of a way out, unless of course you live over that way.

Can any one tell me about the primary and secondary
schools? I'm moving into the area and am not sure which
catchment to live in.

TiggyD · 03/10/2011 20:50

The Kennet secondary is excellent. It's in the middle of Thatcham. The head...DON'T LAUGH...is Paul Dick, I said not to laugh!, is one of those £100,000 a year headmasters. My old school has rocketed up the charts and I've only heard good stuff.

We're in the St Bart's catchment area, n Newbury, it's considered excellent as well as Parkhouse, as secondary schools.
