crying going to nursery

Have tried to find a thread on this but can't. Have just left DS (15 months) at nursery. He started two weeks ago was fine the first time and then not the 2nd - but I thought that was because he was coming down with a cold. He had last week off altogether and I have just left him now in tears. Here in Spain they don't let you go in, in fact you can't see inside at all.

I'm sure loads of children have cried at first, I just want to be reassured that this is normal and he will settle in eventually!

How long have your DDs/DSs cried for as they have started nursery?

I work at a nursery for 2-5 year olds and we often find it is the 2nd or 3rd time that a child will start crying. They do stop crying after a while and get on with playing. This morning we had a 2 year old screaming when her Mum brought her in and she kept saying Mummy don't go. I picked her up ( still screaming ) and we waved at Mum out of the window. I then sat down with the child and she was soon happy playing. Her Mum peepd into the nusery window and saw this It's a pity that you can't go in with you DS or see inside. Are all nurseries like this in Spain?
All parents are allowed into our nusery and we have a 4 week settling period. Some children take this long but others are fine after a few days. Anyway be reassured your ds's tears are perfectly normal and he will settle.

Thanks for that. He is still crying when I drop him off but I am reassured that he is having a good time while he is there because he is usually fine when I pick him up.
Yes, all Spanish nurseries don't let you in. Obviously I have seen inside and it's actually very nice.
Now we have a problem with him hitting and pulling hair though! He does it to me and even with the sternest "no" he carries on. At 16 months I am at a loss to think of a way of dealing with this.
