Strictly speaking, he won't loose a year, he'll still have the same number of years at school than any other child.

Don't look at it as losing a year. He will still stay the same time in school.
Being a September born child (especially as a boy) will have great advantages. Summer born boys often find school very difficult and take many years to 'catch up'. If you google it you will find a lot of research here's a start

He won't lose a year, just as tigana says. The cut off has to somewhere.

Just wanted to back up what others have said - he's not losing a year, he'll be starting school with an advantage that many parents with summer-born children would love their children to have!

Lucky him!

He will get one more year at nursery then his summer born classmates. Although if you are paying for it, its not much of an advantage.

In answer to your question - I think it will be Sept 2013 that he starts school so will be 5 c couple of days after starting.

Loads of children are born on the cusp of the school year. It's a strict 1st September cut off.

He will not lose a year, he will start reception class in September 2013. When he gets there, you will be grateful that he is a September baby and one of the oldest in the class.
