Multiple childcare settings - bad thing?

Hi - was just wondering if anyone had thoughts on the following. My DD is currently attending a local pre-school two mornings a week for a few hours each morning. This particular pre-school is brilliant and DD has made loads of friends but it only offers morning sessions. I have recently decided I need to go back to work and am looking for a more full-time childcare solution. We have a really good nursery nearby and I have been lucky enough to get a place for DD two days a week. So... my thinking was that she could go to the nursery two days a week, and continue going to pre-school two (different) mornings a week, which would give me the equivalent of three full days to hopefully start doing some freelance work and look for a full-time job.

Anyway, I have been told by the manager of the pre-school that she doesn't accept children that are attending another nursery as well as this just confuses them and they don't settle in either setting. I wouldn't mind but she can't offer me the hours that I need and I really don't want to take DD out of pre-school.

Has anyone else experienced this? Has anyone any views, particularly those of you that are childcare professionals.

Your daughter is already there, she doesn't have to 'accept' her, she would have to exclude her if she took this line. I would ask her if you can look at the Pre school's policy for this and take it from there.

Lots of children attend more than one setting and do fine.

yes, dc went to morning pre school on the days I stayed at home. She went to "proper" nursery on the days I worked. No problem. (Preschool children were the ones that she went to school with and I was therefor keen for her to go this preschool as well)

Agree muminbeds - and I must check their policy

My DD goes to a pre school where we live 2 mornings a week and then one where I work for a whole day..
She has no trouble what so ever in settling into both and knowing how each does different things.....

This is discrimination. What does it matter to the pre-school where your daughter goes when she is not there?
I work in a nursery and have worked in childcare for twenty years and have never heard of any setting having this stipulation.
We have children in our setting that attend other settings, and on the whole they cope just fine.
Under the EYFS, settings are supposed to work in partnership and share information. Children attending more than on esetting is very common. The pre-school sound very out of touch in their thinking, which would raise alarm bells for me.
The pre-school person is talking rubbish, anyway. Your daughter is already settled at the pre-school and I am sure she will settle in the new nursery too. After all, she will be going to school soon and will need to settle there, so going to a new setting will actually be beneficial to her. Sort of like a practice settling in for when she goes to big school.

I have worked in many nurseries over the years and we have often had children that do as you are suggesting. And 9 out of 10 times the chidlren will settle and get used to the routine, although only you know your child well enough to make that decision though.

At one setting i worked at a lot of the children also went to busy bees playgroup when they hit age 3 . it seemed like a rite of passage. Personally I didn't get it.
They came to nursery and at 9 am they were dropped off at busy bees by staff, back at nursery at 12.30pm for lunch. Why do they need playgroup and nursery? They're both the same in terms of socialising. I think it was a social status with the parents as well.
