Christmas cards for nursery 'friends'?

DS only started at nursery/pre-school in June (he's 3), so this is the first Christmas he's been there. It hadn't occurred to me to do Christmas cards for the other kids (I'm not terribly big on Christmas cards generally), but when I picked him up the other day I noticed there was a Santa's postbox thingy in the room. So, what's the deal? Am I expected to send cards to all of his 'classmates' (there are only about 5 in his room on a Monday, but I think about 10-15 on a Wednesday)? If so, how do I even know what all their names are? What do others do?

They send them in my DDs nursery. If you ask the teacher for a list of kids names she will give them to you no probs. :D

DD's pre school get them to do one card for the whole class rather than individual ones. They take great delight in pinning it up on the christmas card display

My dd's preschool provide a list of all the children which I've narrowed down to those children who attend the same sessions as dd. Last year (which was dd's first having only started in Sept) I only sent cards to parents children who sent her a card. i was working FT and thought it a lot of nonsense! This year I'm on mat leave, and have just sent 40 Xmas cards - guess my brain must be missing a few cells...

I don't think there's any pressure to send cards, do whatever you want to, and if you're not a card sending person, then don't send any, no big deal.

Yes, My DS has only been to 4 monday sessions of nursery and he already has a few cards from the other babies there (he is only 9 months). I am going to take advice of previous posters and get list of babies and give cards at the nursery christmas party tomorrow. I think its very cute actually but also i dont think anyone would care if you did not send cards back though.

I sent cards to the friends dc 2.2 told me about and actually after sending the cards I made some really good Mum friends who we met up with and had playdates outside of nursery.

I asked DD2 who she wanted to send cards to, and she listed 5 random names so we wrote cards for them. The 5 random cards we have back are all from different people! So I really don't think it matters at all at this age.

The post box may be for sending letters to Santa.

I have not done cards, received a few but still resisting.

At 3 or 4 they are capable of saying if/who they want to send cards to. Don't feel pressured to send them to everyone, or indeed to anyone if you don't want to. My DS1 likes writing them so we send a few, but sending cards from 9 month babies is just daft!
