Length of day limit at nursery

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a time limit to how long a child can stay at nursery per day? I was told today by a worker at the nursery where my son goes that it is a legal requirement that a child can stay at nursery for no longer than 10 hours per day. I appreciate that 10 hours is a long day in itself, but in order for me to have a day off to look after him I am working four 10 hour days and he is there for an extra 10 minutes (nursery on workplace site) while I walk to and from the nursery to my office. (He goes for three days a week - my husband looks after him one day too)
Any advice would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

There are nurseries near me (London) that will take children from 07.30-19.30. Perhaps check with OFSTED?

That can't be right. I know of one nursery that caters for airline crews, so does overnights- letting children stay for a couple of days if needed

It isn't to do with insurance is it? One we looked at will go 7.30-18.00 but say they have to be locked up for the night by 18.00.for insurance purposes.

My nursery is open from 8 to 6.30, and parents can leave them for a full day, however we do not recommend it, i think that ofsted do set a guideline of hours children should be in nursery for.
