Moving up in nursery

Hi

I have a 16 month old who is at nursery 2.5 days a week and I was wondering what to look out for to know that she's ready to move to the bigger group?

Thanks

The nursery will probably tell you when they want to move her up. What's the age grouping of the next room?

Age 2 upwards but they said they will accommodate any child who is ready earlier. One criterion is that the child has to be able to sit at a chair and feed themselves.

Thanks

they will let you know - dont worry - its usually more dictated by space/other children leaving etc than it is by readiness ime.

I would want to keep my dcs down anyway as the next room can be quite boisterous and its nice for the dcs to be the oldest iyswim

Am surprised by that criteria as well actually - its usually about steadiness on their feet and communication skills.

There's a big difference between 16 months and 2 - I doubt the nursery will want to move her for a few months yet. Plus, staffing ratios are different for under 2s and over 2s so it would be tough for the nursery to have the ages mixed.

My daughter is just 2 and has recently moved up to the next group (the 2-3s) She is quite a confident, able child (ie, eats and speaks well) but to be honest I am glad she has only just moved up as there is a noticeable difference in this group in terms of how lively and boisterous it is! Some of the little boys in particular are very active so I am quite glad she didn't move up on sooner!!
