Seeking expecting or new mother/caregiver for infant observation as part of psychotherapy training

Dear all,

I hope it is alright to post here - I appreciate that this is a somewhat unusual request, but I am hoping it may be of interest to someone in this community.

I am currently training in psychotherapy, and a central part of my training is an infant observation. This involves gently following the development of a baby over the first two years of life through regular visits.

So, I am looking for someone who might be interested to participate - and who lives in London or 2 to 3 hours outside London.

In terms of what you might gain from taking part: many parents who have participated describe it as a calm and reflective space, where someone is quietly witnessing their baby’s development. Some find it meaningful to have these early moments gently “held”, thoughtfully observed and reflected upon.

After each visit, I write up my observation notes, which gradually come together in a narrative over time - something I would, of course, be very happy to share with you.

In practice, this would involve me visiting at agreed times (usually for around an hour), while you simply carry on as you normally would - there is nothing at all to prepare. Sometimes the baby may even sleep for the entire visit, which is perfectly fine.

While the observation does take place over a longer period, it is often more flexible in practice than it may initially sound. For example, if there are times when visits take place every other week rather than weekly, that is absolutely fine. I would always aim to work around your schedule and I am happy to travel if needed.

Everything is, of course, treated with strict confidentiality and is used solely for the purposes of my training.

By way of introduction, my name is Silke. I have been working for more than twenty years in the international humanitarian field. Last year, I took the first step towards training as a psychotherapist – a path I have felt drawn to for a long time and which I am finding deeply meaningful. Alongside my studies, I also volunteer at a London-based charity offering support to those in emotional distress.

Lastly, I want to mention that I will be fully dedicated to your baby's development only - and that it is very important to me that you feel comfortable, informed, and at ease with the process throughout.

I would love to hear from you and answer any questions or have a friendly, no-pressure conversation.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

Kind regards,
Silke

I hope you find a willing family. My first was an observed baby for an Anna Freud Centre trainee and it was a great experience for us
