39 weeks + 4 days had a sweep on Thursday, she said I was 3cm stretched me to 4cm said she could have probably stretched me to 5cm! Cervix very favourable midwife said that she’ll be very very suprised if I didn’t give birth over weekend!

STILL NO BABY! I didn’t even know you could be 4cm without any contractions - anyone been in similar situation how long can I be 4cm for 🙈

Sometimes this happens when the baby isn't well applied to the cervix and there is a "balloon" of water between them and amniotic sac. You see, pressure on the cervix from the baby's head helps to stimulate the release of prostaglandins which help soften and dilate the cervix, and eventually bring on contractions. If the babies head is not well applied, sometimes this doesn't occur in the fastest or most uniform fashion.

The good news is that if you choose induction at any point, you'll likely be able to "skip" to having your membranes ruptured, and there is a good chance this alone will bring on active labour as the baby will be able to descend and put that pressure on the cervix. Otherwise, using things like a birthing ball, squats and other positional exercises might help move things along.

get walking and get on a birthing ball
have some food for energy if you can
Good luck!

Yea she did say that if I am still pregnant and need an induction they can just break my waters
looks like more curb walking it is !

Is there a reason they would want to induce soon?
Get on a birthing ball and bounce away or book a lovely day for next Saturday, pay in advance, ideally with other people and no doubt your baby will come first.

This woman freebirthed which I don't advise, but her approach to pregnancy and her body is inspiring I think. I particularly liked how she coped with the end of her latest pregnancy.

I spent two weeks before my first baby trying everything to bring about labour etc etc and has numerous favourable sweeps. By the time I went into labour at 41+3 I was exhausted.

just relax, I wouldn’t bother crab walking or bouncing or any of that, just try and be kind to yourself, go for some gentle walks or whatever you feel like and relax as much as you can.

I was desperate for labour as I had pgd, de quervains, severe hypermobility and a weath of other issues. If id just relaxed and been as gentle and generous with my self as possible I think I might have had a slightly nicer time.

My midwife was actually able to stretch me to 4cm during a sweep with my eldest, and he was still a week late 😂 I stayed like that for about 10 days, then my waters broke and labour finally started.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 28/09/2026 00:18

3 weeks at 3+ cm. She arrived on her due date at a little under 10lbs. It was like sitting on a rock for all that time and I had to resort to suppositories to poo.

I bring it up regularly when she critiques my parenting. 33 years now. I will never let it drop.
