New here...and an issue with the neighbours..

Hi..firstly I'm new here and first post so please be kind...😊

We have two ring cameras, one at the front door and one covering the back yard...we live in a terraced house with low garden walls between us and the neighbours.

Before installing them we had our car vandalised at the front of our home. When we did install them our neighbours were pleased as it covered their back yard also so added security for them...

We are now on holiday and my wife logged into the cameras this afternoon...whilst doing so, the husband of next door was outside with wife and two grown sons...after a few minutes he the waved at the camera and then, quite aggressively gave the middle finger to it, knowing it would be recorded...

My wife wants to quote "rip his head off" but I want to play it more subtle..he has been cutting in some comments on holiday pics my wife has posted so not a one off as such.

Just want to ask advice as to how you would deal with this. His attitude has changed ever since I was able to draw down 6 figures from my pension tax free when I hit 55 a few years ago..

Thank you for any feedback you are kind enough to give..

Usually best to ignore idiots.

Stop the camera in your back garden recording your neighbours in theirs. That’s an invasion of privacy.

MarySueSaidBoo · 13/07/2025 20:13

Our opposite neighbours have got security cameras and it really pisses me off knowing that our every movement outside the front of our property is being recorded. It feels quite violating, especially when I'm out really early walking the dogs at the moment knowing they're getting a notification.

You may feel more secure but that's at the loss of their privacy....

IAmNotASheep · 13/07/2025 20:16

This case OP. There are louds by the way.

What's your pension got to do with your NDN's?

But anyway, stop recording and stalking your neighbours, I would absolutely hate it if my neighbours were recording me in my own garden. No wonder he is testing to find out if you are spying on them.

Ring doorbells are the most annoying thing ever and an invasion of privacy. They don’t considers other peoples views on being recorded.

Came to repeat the above two comments.

My camera lets me block out areas, you can also do this with a piece of tape or a plastic shutter. Or adjust the angle.

Go to the neighbkurs apologise that yiu were recording them and show them the new feed with their garden obscured.

That doesn’t gives the neighbour more privacy or felling they aren’t being watched. . As easily as you can block out part of the image you can remove it too.

You cannot simply record your neighbours it's not lawful

AccidentalPrawnYouFool · 13/07/2025 20:26

Why the fuck are you boasting to your neighbours about how much money you’ve got? How vulgar

Indeed! Also I wouldn’t want to be under constant surveillance by my neighbours. I just the other day stuck two fingers up at a low flying drone hovering above me when I was walking my dog.

TwoToots · 13/07/2025 20:36

I can’t believe that you are watching and listening to your neighbours and then complaining about it! Why not issue them with a list of topics they are allowed to discuss?

Blistory · 13/07/2025 20:46

Is it a Ring camera where the blue light comes on when recording ? So if you’re away, they know that it’s been triggered by them so is either recording them due to motion activation or you’re on live view watching them. Either way your camera is actively recording them, they are aware of that and it clearly upsets them. It’s up to you to find a solution that works for them so why not just ask them ?

Sweatybettyinthisheat · 13/07/2025 21:03

Why would you share the minutiae of your pension info with your neighbour? 🤔 He's probably envious and childishly taking the piss out of you. Ignore him and keep your personal finances to yourself.
