Why do you use mumsnet? To answer people's quests, to read, to spend time pondering the whole wide world stories on here, etc

To help me not eat til my fasting window has elapsed.

SOxon · 17/02/2024 14:29

to eradicate lumps in my pillows

Poachedeggavocado · 17/02/2024 15:52

To laugh at some people's very ridiculous views, argue with some numpties, learn from some incredible people and pass the time.

BookSpines · 17/02/2024 16:01

I have retired and have plenty of time. I do voluntary work, classes and go hiking with DH at the weekend and also see friends. My FT hours plus commute was almost 50 hours a week so I suddenly have a lot of time to fill.

I love having some sort of trash tv on and mnetting at the same time.

To keep an eye on the neighbours

muddyford · 17/02/2024 16:04

Doghouse, Archers threads, property, gardening, plus all the ins and outs of other people's lives. Like Cathy and Claire writ large.

To keep me off Facebook as realised I was on there way too much. I realise I'm still scrolling by being on here but it's somehow less antagonistic for me since it's all anonymous. I like that. Sometimes I learn from it, sometimes I despair, sometimes I have a laugh (crow thread anyone?) and sometimes I feel heartened by it.

I'm intrigued... how?

Teasie123 · 17/02/2024 16:12

I joined first for help on the peri menopause. Found a whole world of people. Love it. Am not on Facebook or anything so this is great.🤗🤗

To stop my washing machine getting smelly

Cesarina · 17/02/2024 16:23
  1. Because I'm nosy.
  2. Because I'm unashamedly voyeuristic. (I think most people are 1 and 2 if they are honest with themselves).
  3. Because I've learned a lot of valuable and interesting stuff from MN that I wouldn't otherwise have known.
  4. Because, at its best, it can be a supportive online community.
  5. Because it enables me to procrastinate doing something important but tedious that I really should be doing instead.

Unfortunately, I'm now well and truly hooked!🙄🤦‍♀️😒

Originally migrated here with a very informal group from The Archers message board, especially the part known as 'The Bull'. It was originally hosted by Radio4 who at some point, just stopped hosting.

That message board, and then Mumsnet, provided company when DH was travelling (and occasional very practical help when DH was in the states and couldn't find any blue tac).

The low carb bootcamp threads here have been transformational for me, after a lifetime of fighting constantly increasing, my weight has stabilised and I really enjoy this approach to eating.

In addition. I continue to enjoy the company as DH no longer travels but is not very well these days so company is something for which I'm always grateful as well as tapping into the expertise of others.

It's so much easier to know what to do when observing someone elses's life than when it is your own.

Teasie123 · 17/02/2024 17:40

@MamaAlwaysknowsbest I think it's lovely hearing from all different people too. Feels like I'm making friends.🤗🤗🤗

It's company, really good advice and there day or night, which is great. If I'm having MH difficulties and can't sleep it absorbs me and redirects my attentions.

richardhoymanwantshisknickersback · 17/02/2024 19:36

@MamaAlwaysknowsbest this link should take you to the crows thread. It is the best thing I've seen on mumsnet Grin
Enjoy!

To be scared that I’m still marked by the crows? http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/4974597-to-be-scared-that-im-still-marked-by-the-crows

I thought that since X and even Insta are so horrible i won't use them anymore, a site used mostly by women would be a good place to discuss issues, especially the tricky ones, without name calling and insulting comments. Ha. Just as bad, it seems nobody can disagree any more about much at all without being nasty. Hey ho
