Living in Chatham Kent

Hi everyone,

I have found and house in Chatham and wanted to know what it's like living there. I have heard some negatives however I will be moving from Central London so can't imagine it to be any worse.

I have a 5 year old so will be looking for a
School, GP, Dental practice etc.

Advice, guidance and suggestions would be great.

Thank you

It's ghastly. Don't do it.

It’s not got the best reputation, although all towns have their good and bad areas.

I live here. I moved from Thornton heath in South London. It's better than there but I will move in two years when my son finishes sixth form. I bought a house for less than my flat. Where is the house you've found? I could give you some info

Where are you moving from?

Hi all - wondered if I could jump on the bandwagon and ask a couple of questions...

@Iamaslummymummy - I have found a property on Charter Street that I am interested in but am worried about the bad wrap that Chatham gets - I was mainly looking in Rochester however properties seem few and far between at the moment!! I wondered if you had any advice on Charter Street and surrounding areas? I know it's 'Rochester side' but does that mean much?

Thanks for any help you can give in advance!!

That is a road that is quite similar to the one that I live on. It is close to the mostly local authority white road estate though that can have a bad reputation. I think it all depends on where you are moving from and what you can afford compared to London. I moved from a two bed flat to a three bed house for less money. I'm happy with my decision as it gave us the space we needed. I like living in Medway, you are so close to open space esp if you have a car and there's loads to do.

Thank you so much for replying (and so quickly)

It's so tough to work out what to do - I can sit and wait for something to come up in Rochester but they seem so few and far between at the moment who knows how long that is going to be! I am coming to Chatham at the weekend to scope out the area and I guess my gut will tell me then!

I am a first time buyer and as you say... no chance of anything of a decent size in London!!
