Anxiety - crashed into barrier in front of colleagues!

Hi everyone

I really struggle with anxiety and being hard on myself.

A few colleagues and I were staying late and left all at the same time. Just as everyone left the building I bloody reversed into the box mechanism of the car park barrier! The metal casing of the box fell off and made such a racket that everyone came running over. There's damage to my car but no one saw that - I'm off for two days annual leave now and I'm becoming so anxious about people talking and laughing about me that I've been sick. I know I need to get a grip but I'd just really appreciate some kind words and advice.

Doesn't really help that I shouldn't have been anywhere near the barrier during the manoeuvre - just bad driving/lack of attention on my part.

Thanks in advance x

Really sorry to hear that you're feeling down about this, I know it's easy for me to say but by the time you go back to work everyone will have forgotten about it.

Don't be too hard on yourself, it was an accident.

Well they will have finished laughing about it by the time you go back to work next week - that's if they even do laugh. They'll just be glad it wasn't them.

A lot worse has happened in my work car park - the newest most junior person reversing into the bosses brand new BMW is just one I can think of. Everybody lived to tell the tale. and we were all just glad it wasn't us

I once reversed out of a space in my first week and scratched my car along the wall. It was a big car and I wasn't confident parking. Colleagues stood and stared. I drove off with my car scratched to shit like it was nothing.

I managed to write off a company hire car and scratch the side of another one manoeuvring through the narrow stone company driveway. Over the course of 5 years but still Blush

Nobody laughs at a car crash OP they'd just be concerned and hoping you're okay x
