Hello everyone
We are moving to Mol in Belgium next March and my children will most likely visit the European school in Mol. It’s covered by my husband’s employer and makes it a lot easier for us as we can choose the language. It would be great to get in touch with parents whose children are attending this school or who know the school....
We live in Switzerland now and my kids mother tongue is German plus French ( my husband), German is their 1st language though. They have been in a bilingual (German/English) pre-school and me and my husband speak English to each other but our mother tongue to the children...yes, lots of languages in our family!
I’m a little worried because we just came to know that the German section in the European school in Mol has been shut down because they don’t have enough German students and from now on it’s only possible to take German as a second language. We were advised by the school to choose French as a first language. My 6 year old daughter is extremely shy and it takes her a long time to adapt. This school year is the last of the ‘ 1 st grade German class” as first language running but since we only move end of March she will have missed most of it. Here in Switzerland she attends the 2nd year of kindergarten and would only start school next year, it’s a different cut off date... I might just see myself the different language sections before making a decision. I wonder, has anyone experience with this school?
Another question, we are searching housing at the moment but since we don’t know the area it’s rather difficult, even though we tend to search in the area around Mol to be close to the school. I have no idea where I will get a job, closer to Antwerp or the other side closer to Germany as I don’t speak flaemisch, so close to the school would be the preferred option right now. Can anyone recommend an area? We heard about a European quarter which is close to the school and where predominantly expats live?
I’m grateful for any advice given and hope to hear from you!
Best regards,
Sandra
