Well, newish. Lived here 17 years ago, went back to NZ to have our girls, now back as a result of dh's job.

The weather seems a lot better this time around?!

Haha it's only September Grin. Welcome!

mbosnz · 11/09/2018 16:25

Thank you! I seriously wasn't expecting weather in the 20s though! We came over Jan-March, to see how we felt about coming here to live - of course, that's when we had the snows. . . and then it snowed in France, and Germany - and then ice-storms in Canada - we were starting to take it a bit personally!

We've had weeks in the 30's which is very unusual (June - July). Even better summer than the great one of '76. Tbh I like British weather. I know you're not supposed to say that.

You have cold winters in NZ?

mbosnz · 11/09/2018 17:18

We do we're I'm from - Christchurch in the South Island. Get very nicely down into the negatives!

Ouch! Probably gets colder there than here! Got to -4 where I am, but that was very unusual.

Are you settling in ok?

mbosnz · 11/09/2018 19:42

We're getting there. We have rented a house (yay), that will let us have a cat (double yay - turns out we really, REALLY need to have a cat to feel settled!), and we've now got admission interviews for the girls - both at the same school, which seems a pretty good one, all in all, which is definitely a triple yay! Thank you for being so kind and welcoming eddielizzard, I must admit, it's kind of daunting changing countries and lives!

(One of the reasons we chose the UK over the other two countries offered for relocation was how kind, inclusive and welcoming the people of the UK were, when we came over for a looksee)

Flowers

It is really tough moving to a new country. Sounds like you're doing very well! Cats and schools - tick!

mbosnz · 11/09/2018 20:19

Perking, was that cake and wine? Because if so - I'm in!

Ah well, we can do Wine too.Grin

Nothing but the best round here!

missyB1 · 11/09/2018 20:47

Hi OP welcome to the madness of Brexit! Grin No seriously I’m glad things seem to be going well for you so far. I did it the other way round a few years ago and moved to NZ I was totally stressed out! Back in the UK now though.

iamacatlady · 11/09/2018 20:51

Hi. Welcome!

A cat is essential to British life almost as much as a cup of tea!

What part of the country have you settled in?

mbosnz · 11/09/2018 21:01

LOL, Brexit is definitely 'interesting'. . . We've settled in Berkshire. Previously, we'd lived in London and (ahem) Swindon. It's definitely different doing it with kids - especially teenagers.
