Hey lovely peeps! My hubby and I are upcycling a kitchen dresser. It's split in 2 parts and I wanted to paint the top of the bottom section with a dark varnish, as we've painted the rest with cream chalk paint. I wanted the contrast. Anyways, hubby goes and ignores me and paints it with the chalk paint! He's adament that you can't paint over it. Can you please help me? Thanks xx

Are you waxing it?
You should wax both prices with clear wax, then you can go over the bottom in dark wax for ageing and contrast.
I usually put a coat of water based varnish on top of the wax too.

I have painted over chalk paint with a polyurethane matt varnish , think it's water based . I used it on a dresser to protect the top.
