Advice regarding starting up my own business

Hi all

I’m hoping for some advice and words of wisdom from anyone that has experience of running their own business.

I’m a manager in the NHS currently and run a service so well used to managing a business, finances and HR etc. I’ve been thinking of setting up my own business for a few years now but struggled to think what I would actually want to do. I trained as a nursery nurse when I first left school so starting up or buying a nursery business is something I’m considering all the minute.

It feels like a really scary prospective to give up my well paid and stable (although very stressful) job to leap into the unknown and I’m not sure where to start!

I’d love to hear from anyone that has done this themselves, particularly if you are working in the childcare industry. How did you start up? what were the challenges? what advice would you give? Anything you feel might be helpful really!!

Thanks in advance 😊

Aren’t childcare providers having issues due to underfunding for free hours for 3+?

Thanks for answering! Yes they are and this worries me a little but families will always need good childcare and the couple of decent local nurseries are over subscribed with a waiting list for places. I'm considering providing care outside of usual hours too as there are a number of hospitals nearby and I know from experience how difficult it was to get childcare if I was required to work late etc.
