Stainless steel pans in the dishwasher not coming out clean

Does anyone have any idea why every single stainless steel cooking pan/pot I put in to our brand new Ikea kitchen dishwasher comes out with a scummy ring on the inside of the pan? I have checked the salt / rinseaid levels and tried different settings but nothing makes a difference. Any ideas?

I had similar problems and just hand wash mine

What make of dishwasher tabs are you using ? Cheapo tabs and rinse aid are just not worth it.. stick to finish or fairy platinum.

no bother here with pans....scrambled eggs ones excepted, they go through twice!

elderly indesit and stainless steel pans, using basic tesco/aldi/lidl tabs

Hand wash only and always dry. If they are stained, give a rub around with vinegar or a cut lemon, rinse under tap and dry.

The ring is probably calcium deposits from boiling - especially common in hard water areas. Acid (vinegar/lemon juice)shifts it.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, it looks as if hard water is the culprit, I guess handwashing is the answer.
