My name is Michelle, I currently work as a school counsellor at a local primary school in the Croydon area. However, I have decided to embark on a new course that will enable me to gain further knowledge and development in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy with Children and Adolescents at Birkbeck College, University of London.
This course is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, it will enable me to gain essential knowledge and skills of psychodynamic counselling, with particular emphasis on its application to children and adolescents. It establishes an understanding of psychoanalytic-based theory and covers the technical processes of counselling children and adolescents, while developing the personal and professional awareness required for effective practice as defined by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Mother-Infant Observation is a central part of the course. The aim is to enable me as the student to observe a baby growing up for the duration of one hour of everyday life each week. The opportunity to observe the real life development of a baby will help me to gain a better understanding of the theory of infant and young child development studied on the course. This will provide an important foundation to develop my skills and understanding in work with children.
I am seeking help from a family willing to allow me to visit their family home to observe the development of your new baby. The observation will begin shortly after birth and I will visit you in your family home for one hour on the same day and time each week, according to what will be most convenient for you and your family. The observation will continue until around the time of the first birthday. Before the observations commence, I will meet with you to discuss the course and the structure of the observations in more detail. I must express, all personal details will be kept confidential.
