I am autsitic and have always had hideous trouble with insomnia. The GP have prescribed me short prescriptions of antihistamines and melatonin and obviously have discussed sleep hygiene etc, but none of it really works.
So after a bit of research I decided to try CBD products. The brand I use are all fully compliant with UK law and have third party testing, technically they're considered a food supplement rather than a drug or medication.
Anyway, I've noticed a huge improvement in my sleep, and have also noticed that I feel much calmer during the day, which was an unintended impact, but a welcome one.
I don't think they make me drowsy, but they do really take me out of hyperarousal, so when I wake up in the night I'm still nice and relaxed and I just drift back off to sleep a few minutes later, instead of getting stuck in anxious thought patterns for hours of end including worrying about having to do the day ahead on 2hrs of sleep.
I have a daughter who is autistic and starting high school soon. She has been increasingly anxious as we draw closer to her start date in September. She has had lots of therapy, including privately and from CAMHS, but tends to struggle with school attendance due to EBSA despite all of the therapeutic parenting and her school being very supportive. There have been times we have had to home school, which is logistically tricky with work, and I'm kind of prepared that high school might never work for her, but i want to give it our best shot.
So I have been wondering about CBD for her. It isn't illegal, she isn't on any other supplements or medications, she is highly anxious which comes out as emotional and physical outbursts, sometimes hurting those around her.
Has anyone else gone down this route?
