Took the first step

I just submitted a GP appointment request asking for an ADHD assessment - I initially drafted the text for it two years ago! Finding out that a relative has recently been diagnosed gave me the push I needed to get it done. Why is everything so ridiculously hard?!

Had this response:

We are currently not accepting referrals for adults with suspected ADHD who do not have a complex presentation or psychosocial multi-morbidity at this time. Alternatively, please offer self-help material and signpost to local and national resources. Suggestions of self-help resources are enclosed with this correspondence. This will help protect our local specialist mental health services and manage the increasing waiting times for those suffering with complexity and risk.

So I guess a private assessment is the only option?
