How did ADHD medication help you?

I guess I'm feeling deflated. Recently diagnosed with inattentive type. Waiting for titration. Have felt different and incapable my whole life. Have convinced myself medication isn't going to work, but I think that is my rock bottom speaking. Did anyone start meds and see positive changes? What were they?

Massive changes!

It was like my brain landing for the first time. Instead of a million thoughts, it was ' what do I need to do next'. Much easier to start things. Easier to come back to things.

Also much less emotional 'rain' - only way to describe it, like a constant stream of emotions I have where I'm thinking about how an email I am writing comes across, everything that went before it, all the things that could come after - all of that is much quieter!

However, you do have to direct your focus. You can easily take meds and sit on a phone for 5 hours because its right there. Don't do that! Set up the task then take meds. Don't forget to eat or they make your anxious. They also do make me feel slightly less creative, but I use mind maps to help with that.

And no amount of meds will make you do something your heart isn't in.

I recommend learning strategies as well alongside meds. Have learned tonnes from podcasts and books. Find what bespoke strategies work for you.

For me that's been things like Noise Cancelling earbuds.

Never realised how sensitive I am to noise until I started meds.

Using a children's timer on Amazon for starting on tasks.

Have organised my storage better, etc. and have lists for everything.
I am better with money and binge eat slightly less too.

Definitely takes a good solid year to figure it all out. I only take short acting meds as the long ones didn't agree with me.
