Experience with Psychiatry UK for ASD?

Hi everyone,

I’ve managed to get a referral to Psychiatry UK for an ASD assessment. I just wondered if anyone has any experience with them? What was the assessment like? Any timeline you can give would be greatly appreciated!

my two year old is on the wait list for an appointment and since having kids I have only just realised that I have a lot of the same traits and family members have also pointed out a few things. After being told it would be 5 year wait I decided to go with right to choose.

Any replies would be greatly appreciated!

I went with them. Gp refered me in the may. A month later I had an acceptance email and a few questions. About September/October I had another correspondence. In about February I had several questionnaires to fill in and ask someone who knew me well to fill one in. In the may I got a request to book for my assessment (had choice of days/times and assessor). Appointments were all for June.
At the assessment there was the doctor and a nurse specialist. I had to set my camera up so they could see my whole body. They asked lots of questions related to what was on the questionnaires (some I think to confirm I was consistent, some to expand). A few scenarios and then I was given the diagnosis there and then (less than an hour). I got emailed a report which was quite enlightening and showed they'd picked up on the unsaid too. I was kept informed all along. I used the portal to communicate and they got back to me in a timely manner. All in all a good service.

hope you don’t mind me asking, was that last year and for ASD? I just ask because they’ve put on their website it’s a 3 month wait for ASD and 12 months for ADHD.
I am the most impatient person on the planet and I’m really struggling with the waiting game.

Yes results June 2024 for asd. It said the same waiting times in may 2023 when I was referred. I'm not sure however if they have different timeliness for nhs and private patients.

Oh I see! Thank you! Were you NHS or private? I suppose a year is better than 5! 😂

My wait was about 10 months. Questions were why do you think you have ASD (I had an extensive list so I read out some of it), do you have any sensory issues, did you have any trouble in school, do you have trouble making friends etc.
