I thought it might be interesting to read what other MNer’s special interests are. Mine is Minecraft and Snoopy 🤓

Car seats Grin
Parenting books/advice
Neurodiversity
Psychology
Human behaviour/development/emotions (prob encompassed by the above three).
The Sims 2
Harry Potter (hence the name) - though TBH less so now. I still love the whole thing but I'm not an obsessive fan the way I was 20 years ago, and I don't like the movies as much, so stuff relating to the movies is less interesting to me (I wish somebody would explain this to DH!)

I enjoy writing. I have used writing to cuhsion the last few years of my life and these interests as well.

I am diagnosed with anorexia nervosa as well. It has been said that some anorexics who are also autistics can take the eating disorder as their special interest. Deftinetly for me there was elements of that in my life and also at times a deadly disorder with its own medical and pyschological reasons.
I am trying to stop some of these special interests areas if they exist still.
I though wrote about my experiences of the disorder in a positive article no triggers to me and did that as an awareness project. That was fulfiling. It led to me being contacted and working for the NHS voluntary and being paid to do so and they covered me very well. I also did a video for another NHS team and it led to a medical journal article with me as a co in it.

I also have an interest in religion since 15/16. I also have my own faith. I wrote a testimony to my faith. I made a covering video as well as I am no talker and also brought new topics to some forums. I also shared with people at church via my blog and cards I developed to the blog address.I shared with friends via my blog I also turned my blog post into an ebook that can be downloaded freely. As someone with a faith you cannot get these back times like this and it is a good project to take on..

I also have a special interests in waterfalls. You got that right, not parks as such although I like in nature I like visiting waterfalls in parks and gardens really now for mobility issues and filming the waterfall and then uploading it to Youtube. I am now learning about them in detail and exploring them through documentaries as well. You see my waterfall channel basically below.

In the past I have liked character t shirts fun ones, peanuts powerpuff girls etc.

I love the colour green to an extremes at times.Green wallpaper cushions clothes hair at times.Everything if possible lol.

I have stuck with the same designer for decades and will not change those ever.

I have a hard time as well parting with my clothing. I would rather buy something new for someone than give away of mine which I bought as I wanted it. I would be honoured to buy them something new.

I also like theatre as well but I am not sure if that is a special interest though. I have liked theatre from a young child.

There may be more. I wanted to show though what is that makes it special, parks in nature no, waterfalls that is surely a special interest lol. Also, I wanted to show you like

I will also say I looked for a voluntary job in the area of my faith doing hospital chapilancy. i was seemed to judge perhaps not fit enough or ready in one voluntary borough I did attend a training session. Also, there other voluntary jobs to around faith.

Also, how can I forget that, I am a geek girl at heart lover of some technology. I used to moderate on a Sony forum as a super moderator with mostly males. My niche area was Sony ultraportable laptops and other ultraportable laptops. I loved to run crystal mark benches on numbers and write to my hearts contents about numbers and benches. You see I like numbers a lot and my eating disorder seemed to eat a lot of it up, haha. surely some of us will get that and it seemed to be true as well. With the excess to numbers weight loss etc etc with eating disorders often. I fixed my laptops and was often given other family members to do. One of my neighbours just knocked yesterday to sort out my technology. I also loved Blackberry phones so much and have not yet got over it.

I do not like confrontations as well probably from autism as well so all my Youtube videos I have turned all comments of to prevent any trolls. Some autistics can handle speaking well on camera and I really cannot and not alone at all.I cannot give any real eye contact and blinking is out there and so much more. I prefer to be behind the camera or short as possible and they are very scripted everything I say even then.

So a lot more people can take on a video account like Youtube etc if they decide they want to.

There have also been some concessionary courses that I have taken to help me with my writing how to form a story. I did one may be just over a few years ago on City Litt.

my special interests "people studying" (many years now, observing and thinking a lot about people and situations) and collecting jewellery. every 1-2 weeks i take all my jewellery out and look through it. try it all on for no particular reason. fixation on calories in food too, decades now!

previous special interests - collecting make-up and i did the same- sorting, holding it and looking at it. Reading Marie Claire and European edition vogue magazines, various other magazines, not just reading but studying and going back over the same magazines many times.

sort of weird but not really "out there" odd.😃

I like people studying too, hence why MN is so fascinating 😅

Viruses and bacterias effects on organisms...

I know its morbid, it started with history and locations and the period of plague, but then I needed to know the how, the why, the origin and what happens to the cells to display symptoms..then in animals..it just went on and on. Even to changes in society, economy. Honestly..if someone walked in on me munching popcorn to a documentary on syphilis in the medical ages I dread to think 😅

Feel better about my art collection now. If I see a painting I like I have to own it, but I cant even afford to frame them all or have enough wall space so they end up in boxes but I just love looking through them 😍🥰

PenguinLover24 · 12/02/2025 09:54

Honestly? Nothing. I have never stuck at anything due to having zero attention span, getting bored so easily and the novelty wearing off. Sometimes I wish I had a special interest / hobby to actually entertain myself!

InMySpareTime · 25/02/2025 13:11

Writing
Reading (though I lack the attention for it now)
Storytelling
Linguistics
Etymology
Sociology
True Crime
Sewing
Embroidery
Jigsaws
Gardening
Ecology/entomology
Painting/art
Making theatre props
Paper craft
Colouring

It depends where the mood takes me, I'm lucky that I can follow whichever whim takes my fancy on a particular day.

whatisforteamum · 03/03/2025 07:06

Mine is cooking and food in general.
I love it so much I became a chef.
