Sunflower lanyard experience at Heathrow Airport

I had to travel today and I was becoming increasingly agitated about going through security as I was waiting for the bag drop-off counter to open. In the past it has been a generally unpleasant experience, with one time even being yelled at for doing the wrong thing (I paused going through the metal detector). I’m always stopped and frisked down for some unknown reason (I always follow the rules and don’t have anything in my pockets, no jewellery, no belt, etc. Just jeans and a jumper and trainers type of outfit). The last time I had to be frisked and had my shoes swabbed. The airport staff are always short and rude with me. I know going through security isn’t pleasant for anyone but the whole airport experience is highly agitating for me and this is the worst bit. Prior while waiting I was developing a migraine and feeling very nauseous.

Today I thought, ok, I’m going to go see if I can get a sunflower lanyard. I had to go to two different counters but both ladies were nice to me. Going through the first stage of security (checking boarding pass) was a breeze. I was directed to a separate staffed line where the woman working it called me ‘my lovely’ and was very kind. Then going through security with the metal
detectors, I was patiently told what to do with my lanyard instead of being yelled at, and for once I didn’t get frisked!!

The whole experience was such a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend anyone who has issues / anxiety travelling to use a sunflower lanyard.
