ADHD (and possibly ASD) specific therapy recommendations.

Hi all!

I have recently been diagnosed with ADHD and I am also on the wait list for an ASD assessment.

I am wondering if there is any ADHD / ASD therapies that are specifically tailored to people who have ADHD/ ASD?

I'm basically looking for something to help me put strategies in place to help me cope with life. In the past I was misdiagnosed with GAD and depression and attended counselling, CBT, CFT and trauma response work all of which didn't have any effect.

I'm basically needing something that works for my brain and teaches ND specific strategies which will actually work / help when the standard type of strategies haven't worked.

I would also prefer private recommendations, even if it's just the name of the type of thing I'm looking for. I'm at my wits end with the NHS and I honestly don't trust them to ever help me with this after fighting for an assessment since I was 15 (now 30) and I've only just been diagnosed because I went private.

I'm in central Scotland if this helps.

Thank you!

I found EMDR best. DBT is meant to be good for ND people but it looks ridiculous to me.

I've had lots of types of therapy/counselling. The only useful one has been with a therapist who is ND herself. I'm sure there are lots but this was mine.

Take a look at metpsy, (metpsy.com/about/) they are based in Scotland. If you have the time watch Ally Houston on YouTube.
