Treatments to help ASD??

What actually works ? Is there anything ? I know there’s not any medication like there is for adhd but is there any proven therapy for ASD?

CBT made things worse for me
Counselling didn’t do anything
exposure therapy caused such severe burnout/shutdown I havent been able to work in 25 years and not looking likely I ever will again and that’s not what I want.

I get severe physical symptoms due to it as well and i Need to find something that might help ? I’m not functioning at any level

Anything that claims to be a "treatment" for ASD is the very opposite, usually designed by NTs to make NDs seem more like them.

Ultimately, the only thing that's proven to work is constructing a world around yourself which plays to your strengths while insulating you from your vulnerabilities as much as is possible. Of course, not all autistic people are capable of this (or they don't have the opportunity).

I've always wondered if there's such a thing as ASD coaching - whereby the coach actually helps you build that world where you're not constantly setting yourself up for failure.

I just can’t seem to be able to exit from shutdown/burnout now

Rest.

Possibly OT calming strategies.

If you are religious: prayer
If Christian: worship songs off you tube. (Actual church may (will probably almost certainly) make it worse as too many people/noise )

Keep a diary of what triggers and what what calms. Try and work out what you can cope with. Never try and do more while you are in recovery.

Thanks for the insight on exposure therapy.
