ND affirmative book on parenting an ADHD child

Hello,

I'm ND myself, dyslexic, likely autistic and likely inattentive ADHD. My son is like his Dad hyperactive ADHD. He's only 3 and very impulsive and I just don't know how to deal with him. I don't want to keep telling him off if he can't help it.

Please can you recommend a non pathologising, ND affirmative book on how to parent a hyperactive ADHD child? I want to do it right and don't really relate to how he processes things.

Thank you

I think non-ADHD-specific books tend to be best for this.

Look at these:

The Out of Sync Child
Stuart Shanker Self-Reg
Becky A Bailey Conscious Discipline
The Explosive Child

Russell Barkley's videos on understanding ADHD/all the things parents should know are very good about how ADHD itself specifically works, but I wouldn't follow his parenting/behaviour management advice because it's very rooted in behaviourism and I don't think that's very helpful.

The only exception to this would be if you're struggling with ADHD yourself and/or very regularly getting stuck in a cycle where the child misbehaves, you react, they retaliate and you're each escalating each other. If you're in this cycle then you need to break that first before the other stuff will help.

Thank you so much. I'll look into the ones you mentioned. 💐💐
