Elvanse/ lizdexamphetamine shortages...

My poor DD (age 20) has run out of 20mg and there appears to be none in the country now. Anyone heard anything about when it might be back in stock?? DD is going back to uni shortly and is very anxious that she's not going to get any work done without her meds...

I just came on here to see if there was a thread to update about the shortages.

I managed to get Elvanse 50 mg yesterday for the first time in months. The pharmacist had 30 and 40 mg in stock a few weeks ago, so there is stock kicking around it just seems very random what strengths are available.

Maybe check with a pharmacy where your daughter's university is, it might be the case that she'll be able to get it when she's there if not before.

Spoke to the chemist today. He told me that they are still delivering it but demand is vastly outstripping supply. There is only one manufacturer with a license to make it and one wholesaler.

Also patients requiring 50mg are taking 30s and 20s to make up their dose, leaving an even bigger shortage of lower doses.

He suggested phoning round pharmacies regularly to see if anyone has any. But it is soul destroying... Also the Boots stock website is useless. Says there's some in East Grinstead for example but that Boots doesn't pick up the phone.

She might be able to ask her provider to write a prescription for 40mg and then take half one day and half the next. It is fairly easy to split them in half, you carefully open the capsule, then tip out half the powder onto a spoonful of yoghurt or something, eat that and then reseal the capsule to take the next day. I did this when titrating.

Some people say you can put the whole dose of powder in water, dissolve it, shake well, drink half the water and save the other half for the next day - I didn't have much luck with this, it seemed to settle at the bottom so I felt like I wasn't getting a very accurate dose.

No 40mg around for months - since sept iirc. Fat chance

Still no joy here and I'm phoning different pharmacies every day. In my experience you can't just change your dose and ask for something else without getting your prescription changed by the psychiatrist. And getting to see one of them costs ££££

I've just been given a prescription for 60mg because that seems to be in stock at most pharmacies. I haven't actually handed it in yet though. I'll have to split the dose though because I was just starting it at 20mg when the supply when pffft.

Still nothing! Honestly this is so appalling, I hope the government are ashamed. DD visiting her GP today with chronic anxiety and low mood looking for medication but really just needs her ADHD meds back!!
