Uni accommodation

My son who is on the spectrum started uni in September, he is in uni accommodation and has applied to stay in the accommodation next year. Now speaking with the accommodation team I have found out he can get a reduction for his en-suite accommodation but only if the DSA assessment stated that ‘he should not be charged extra for en-suite accommodation due to his condition of autism’.
I have been back to the assessment company and they are saying that’s not correct we only do that if in Private accommodation and the fact he is autistic that should be enough.
I have the uni saying that they are not correct and that more and more assessment companies are putting this in their assessments. This wording needs to be on there because it’s money the uni has to right off.
i have asked the uni for something in writing and I’m waiting to hear.
I have looked online to see if I can find anything and all I can find is that people are getting reductions on accommodation but it doesn’t state whether it had to be written in the assessment.
Has anyone got any experience with this? Tia.

why ask the uni for anything? surely ask the assessment company to adjust the report to reflect the need - presuming they do think he needs an en-suite

Thank you for your reply. I have asked them and they are saying they only do it for private accommodation not uni halls.

if you have it in writing - then you provide this to the university

if not, ask for it in writing

i have to say

ir does make sense that they’d need the assessment report to state this rather than just assume every ND student needs an en-suite

Yes I agree unfortunately the assessment company don’t. I have asked the university for something in writing to prove what we need so that hopefully they will add it to the assessment. It’s not like the DSA are having to finance it, they don’t the university just reduce the cost.

it doesn’t look like there is one standard approach across all universities regarding evidence

what uni is it?

when the assessment was done there was nothing spoken about accommodation or how my son would be sharing things like a bathroom. But at the time I didn’t know any better. It’s only now that I was checking with the university that the form for next year was completed ok that I spoke to the person that deals with the allocation of these rooms and he advised me about the room rate reduction but only if mentioned in the assessment. He was really helpful, I have bow asked him for something in writing to go back to the assessment company. He’s not back in the office until Tuesday
